Glass skin routine: 2 steps instead of 10

Glass skin routine: 2 steps instead of 10

"Glass skin" is the Korean beauty term for skin so smooth, clear and hydrated it looks almost reflective, like a pane of glass. It's a lovely goal. The problem is that most glass skin routines online involve ten steps, three toners and an hour in front of the mirror. Realistically, very few of us are going to keep that up.

The good news is that you don't need ten steps. What makes skin look glassy is mostly hydration, and you can get there with a short routine you'll actually stick to.

What actually makes skin look "glassy"?

That glow comes from light bouncing off a smooth, well-hydrated surface. When skin is dehydrated, it looks flat and dull, and texture shows up more. When it's full of water and the surface is calm, it reflects light evenly. So the whole idea is to:

  • pull water into the skin,
  • lock it in so it doesn't escape,
  • and protect it during the day.

Everything else is a bonus.

The 2-step glass skin routine

We call this "prep and seal". You'll still cleanse at night and wear SPF in the morning, which are non-negotiable for any routine. But the actual glass skin part is just two products.

Step 1: Prep with a hydrating serum

A lightweight serum on slightly damp skin gives you that first layer of hydration and helps everything after it sit better. We use the PDRN Peptide Serum: two or three drops, pressed in with your palms rather than rubbed.

Tip: applying serum to damp (not soaking) skin makes a noticeable difference. Spritz with water or apply straight after cleansing.

Step 2: Seal with a gel-cream

Next, lock everything in with a moisturiser. For a glassy finish, a gel-cream works better than a thick, rich cream, which can look greasy rather than glowy. The PDRN Collagen Jelly Cream has a bouncy, light texture with 5% niacinamide, which helps with a more even-looking tone.

That's it. Morning and night.

What your routine looks like day to day

Morning

  1. Rinse with water or a gentle cleanser
  2. Serum
  3. Gel-cream
  4. SPF 30 or higher

Evening

  1. Cleanse (double cleanse if you've worn SPF or makeup)
  2. Serum
  3. Gel-cream

Once or twice a week
Swap step 3 in the evening for a collagen gel mask. Wear it until it turns clear (around 3–4 hours), then peel it off and pat in the leftover essence. If you've never used one, here's our full guide.

Why fewer steps often works better

  • You'll actually do it. Consistency matters far more than the number of products.
  • Less irritation. Every extra product is another chance for a reaction. Fewer steps means calmer skin, and calm skin looks glassier.
  • It's easier to spot what works. If something doesn't suit you, you'll know which product it is.

The habits that matter as much as products

  • Wear SPF every day, even when it's cloudy. Sun damage is the fastest way to lose that even, clear look.
  • Don't over-exfoliate. A little gentle exfoliation helps, but scrubbing or daily acids can leave skin red and dull instead of glowing.
  • Sleep and water. Not glamorous, but your skin does show it.
  • Be patient. Give any routine at least four weeks before you judge it.

Can I add other products?

Of course. If you want to work on fine lines, retinol is the most proven ingredient there is. Just introduce it slowly, on nights you're not masking. Our retinol for beginners guide walks you through it. If you're curious about the PDRN in the serum and cream, read What is PDRN?.

The easy way to start

The Glass Skin Ritual gives you the serum plus 1, 4 or 8 collagen gel masks in one set, so you've got the prep, the seal and your weekly boost sorted. Add the Jelly Cream for your daily moisturiser and you've got the full routine.
